We know, when you need refrigerator repair, it’s important. Refrigerators are the biggest, most expensive appliances in our homes. They’re also one of the most important. They keep food cold and safe to eat. They freeze foods so that we can keep them longer. Now they make ice and dispense cold, filtered water. Some will even keep your grocery list for you!
At Dye’s Appliance, we strive to give you the best refrigerator repair service in Kansas City. Our goal is to help get your fridge back to working order as soon as possible.
Refrigerator Repair Issues
Cooling Issues
The granddaddy of them all. For refrigerator repair, at least. A fridge that doesn’t keep food cold can cost you a lot of money. There are a few reasons why refrigerators won’t stay cold. Some are worth repairing, some aren’t
If the refrigerator side isn’t cooling but the freezer section is, you could have an airflow problem or a bad fan motor. If neither side is cooling very well, the potential problems could be worse. Best case, you may be looking at a new start kit. Worst case, a bad compressor or leaky sealed system.
Our techs can diagnose your problems and help you decide on the best course of action.
Defrost Issues
Almost all refrigerators self-defrost these days. When a part of this defrost system goes out, you can run into problems. Frosty freezers can cause airflow problems between freezer and refrigerator. They can also cause a mess when all that ice finally does defrost. Fortunately, most defrost issues are a cost-effective repair depending on the age of the unit.
Ice/Water Issues
Will your refrigerator work okay if your ice and water dispenser doesn’t? Usually, sure. But who wants to mess with ice trays? An ice maker that isn’t making any ice could be broken itself or it could just not be getting water from the valve. Some ice makers will make ice but the dispenser could be having issues spitting that ice out. For water that’s not dispensing, the water valve is most usually the culprit.
Leaking Issues
Hardwood floors, beware. Leaky refrigerators can wreak havoc on your floors. Or the basement below. Leaks can also be contained inside the refrigerator. Those tend to be drainage issues. Always make sure you have a separate shut-off for water going to your refrigerator. This ensures you can stop leaks quicker while waiting for service. And it saves you from turning off the water to the whole house!
Repair vs Replace
Refrigerators are expensive, no matter how big the holiday weekend sale may be. Unless yours is really old (think 15 years, plus) then most refrigerator issues are worth repairing. The big issues that tend to get refrigerators replaced are a bad compressor or a leaky evaporator. The cost to repair is just to great to justify keeping the unit. Again, our techs can help with any questions you have when it comes to refrigerator repair.
Different Styles
Top Freezer
Freezer up top, refrigerator on the bottom. These refrigerators are smaller and a bit more basic than other styles. They’re cheaper to purchase too. Most still have ice makers in them or are equipped to have one installed.
Side-By-Side
Freezer on one side (usually left) and refrigerator on the other. These fridges get bigger and more expensive by the year. If you do get a new one, always measure the space you want to put it in. Older houses aren’t always built to handle the behemoths. Ice and water in the door are commonplace with these units. New features are dreamed up and added to side-by-sides all the time.
French Door
Freezer drawer on the bottom, double (French) door refrigerator up top. These are getting to be very popular. The prices are steeper but you get a ton of nice features. Some of which you may actually use. Again, measure your space if you thinking of getting one. They’re big.
